Natural Language Processing Unit

The DERI Unit for Natural Language Processing (UNLP) has a focus on applied research in ontology-based information extraction, semantic-level text mining and the use of linguistic and semantic methods in information retrieval. In our research projects we develop methods for the efficient application of NLP tools in combination with domain semantics as specified in ontologies, thesauri and other knowledge organisation systems for real-life use cases, such as:

  • eScience and eTechnology, with a focus on expert community analysis and technology structure analysis from scientific literature - see our Saffron demo on expert finding in the context of the Lion2 project on Networked Knowledge
  • eBusiness, with a focus on semantic-level fact extraction from financial and business reporting - see also the Monnet project on Multilingual Ontologies for Networked Knowledge
